GAITSCAN ANALYSIS
GAIT SCAN PROCESS
What is it?
GaitScan is a state-of-the-art system that allows your physiotherapist to assess your foot’s mechanics and function. It can detect abnormal foot function which may be causing various problems throughout your body such as:
• Leg/knee pain
• Foot pain including arch/heel pain
• Back and hip pain
• Achilles tendon pain
• Ankle pain
• Shin pain
Who should have GaitScan?
If you have:
• Feet that are sore on a regular basis e.g. pain under your heel (planter fasciitis)
• If you have pain in your knees or Achilles tendon (back of your ankle)
• If you spend a good portion of your day standing or walking on hard surfaces
• You play sport regularly, especially running sports
• Standing, walking or running gives you joint pain (ankles, knees or hip)
• You have visible foot problems (bunions, fallen arches etc)
• One of your legs is shorter than the other
• You have knock-knees or bow legs
• Your shoes wear out quickly or unevenly
What to expect?
The first part of the process is the scan. We will take a few measurements and then you will be instructed to walk across the pressure sensitive plate, which has thousands of tiny sensors that capture the distribution of pressure on your foot over time.
From your scan the computer displays 2D and 3D visual representations of the pressure under your foot as you walk. It also produces a series of reports that will be compared to an ‘ideal’ foot scan.
The second part of the process will be a quick chat with Chris our physiotherapist who will discuss with you the report from your scan, and evaluate if the pain you are experiencing is related to faulty foot function, and if so, how best to correct it.
There are different options, but if it is determined that you would benefit from custom orthotics, your information is then sent to the laboratory to have custom made orthotics manufactured specifically to your feet.
If you would like to know if your foot function may be contributing to your _____ we can perform the scan today and then arrange a quick chat with Chris to talk you through the results in a few days time.
How much will it cost?
The Gait Scan foot analysis normally costs $35-70 but for those attending our gym it can be bulk billed with your private health and so will cost nothing extra out of pocket. The consult with Chris to discuss the report will also be covered with your private health.
